Allen R. Nissenson, MD, FACP, FASN

Chief Medical Officer, DaVita Inc.

Dr. Nissenson is a  an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he served as Director of the Dialysis Program and Associate Dean.  Dr. Nissenson is a former President of the Renal Physicians Association and served on the RPA Board of Directors as a special advisor to the President.  Dr. Nissenson is Immediate Past President of the Southern California End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network.  Dr. Nissenson served as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow of the Institute of Medicine in 1994-1995, working in the office of the late Senator Paul Wellstone.   

Dr. Nissenson is the author of two dialysis textbooks, both in their fourth editions and was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, an official journal of the National Kidney Foundation.  He recently completed service as Editor-in-Chief of Hemodialysis International the official journal of the International Society for Hemodialysis, as well as Medscape Nephrology, an innovate website focused on nephrology.  He has over 549 publications in the field of nephrology, dialysis, anemia management, and health care delivery and policy.  Among his numerous honors are the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award in Hemodialysis presented by the University of Missouri on behalf of the Annual Dialysis Conference and the President’s Award of the National Kidney Foundation. He was recently named the recipient of the 2011 Medal of Excellence Award of the Association of American Kidney Patients.


Stephen McMurray, MD, FACP

VP, Clinical Integrated Care Management Services, DaVita Inc.

Dr. McMurray is a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana University Medical School and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He practiced nephrology for 31 years at Indiana Medical Associates, a 35-physician multi-specialty group in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was one of the founding members of Renal Care Group and is a past member of the board of directors of the Renal Physicians Association. Most recently he served as Medical Director for the Fresenius Medical Care ESRD Demonstration project. 

James Katsikas, MD

Past President, Florida Society of Nephrology

Dr. Katsikas, who has more than 30 years’ experience as a practicing nephrologist in both hospital and freestanding units, leads VillageHealth’s regional Quality Care Committees and oversees our medical management process throughout Florida.

Dr. Katsikas’ numerous positions in nephrology organizations have included his roles as President of the Florida Society of Nephrology, Chairman of the NKF Dade County Medical Advisory Committee, and Executive Committee Member of ESRD Network 7.

William D. Mattern, MD

Past President, American Kidney Fund

Dr. Mattern directs Quality Care Committee activities and oversees the VillageHealth medical management process in North Carolina. He also consults on the clinical development of our care management information system.

Dr. Mattern is widely published in clinical nephrology, medical education, and the use of computers in nephrology. In addition to several leadership positions at UNC, Dr. Mattern has been active with the North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance, the American Kidney Fund, the Renal Physicians Association, and a CMS-sponsored software project.
